Sustainable Development, Third Sector and Social Networks

Comprises an interdisciplinary group researching into themes related to sustainable development, such as environmental improvement, sustainable planning and management of fishing, forestry and nature conservation activities, the agricultural sector and urban craft, social responsibility, local management and development. It also includes the analysis of social networks and research into the third sector.

This research group is devoted to the study of several areas: Economics and management of natural resources and the environment; Biodiversity conservation management; Sustainable forestry management and fire risk; Fisheries – economics, optimization and articulation of policies of local development and job creation; Agriculture and urban handicraft; Development of consultancy tools to help associations and SMEs to promote employment; Corporate social responsibility – development of toolkits for use in SMEs and NGOs; Local development and management; Globalization and the impact of modern forms of work organization on traditional systems of sociability, mainly in African countries, China, Brazil and Portugal; Public policy and social and economic development – evaluation of incentive programs for SMEs designed to promote local development, the implementation of public policies and obstacles to collective action by target actors, the role of civil society in good governance and the complexity of civil society's participation in the policy process.
