CRiCity presented at the “Seminário O Direito da Criança à Participação”

Eunice Castro Seixas and Benedita Portugal Melo participated in the “Seminário O Direito da Criança à Participação”, in Almada, as invited speakers.


This event, which took place in Auditório Osvaldo Azinheira, at Cineteatro Academia Almadense on the 27 november 2019, was organized by the Câmara Municipal de Almada and Comissão para a Proteção de Crianças e Jovens (CPCJ) in order to celebrate the 30 years of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and promote reflection and debate on this issue.

More specifically, the seminar was focused on the Right to Participation under Article 12 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child.

Article 12 says that every child has the right to express their views, feelings and wishes in all matters affecting them, and to have their views considered and taken seriously.

“States Parties shall assure to the child who is capable of forming his or her own views the right to express those views freely in all matters affecting the child, the views of the child being given due weight in accordance with the age and maturity of the child. For this purpose, the child shall in particular be provided the opportunity to be heard in any judicial and administrative proceedings affecting the child, either directly, or through a representative or an appropriate body, in a manner consistent with the procedural rules of national law.” (Article 12 of the UNCRC)
