Retired Full Professor at ISEG-ULisboa, since 2011. Full Professor in the Department of Social Sciences at ISEG-UTL, 1994-2010. President of SOCIUS/ISEG-Ulisboa, 1991-2004 and 2006-2012.

Honours degree in Social Sciences, ISEG-UTL, 1992. Equivalence to the Portuguese degree of Doctor by the Technical University of Lisbon, 1985. Doctorate in Economic Sciences, University of Paris X - Nanterre, 1984 (Doctorat de 3ème cycle thesis under the supervision of Prof Eugène Enriquez). D.E.A. Diploma in Economic Systems and Structures, University of Paris X - Nanterre, 1981 (Master's thesis under the supervision of Prof Claude Orsoni). Degree in Economics, ISCTE, 1978.

Research areas: sociology, psychosociology of organisations, economic sociology, social economy, third sector, information and communication technologies (ICT).
