Academic Degrees BA in Sociology (ISCTE, 4th year completed at the University of Warwick UK), Master in Sociology of Work (ISCTE), PhD in Economic and Organizational Sociology (ISEG) and Agregada (post-doctoral degree) in Economic and Organizational Sociology (Technical University of Lisbon).
Current Professional Activity Professor of Sociology at ISEG, University of Lisbon, where she teaches Sociology of Work (BA in Management/Business Studies), Organizational Models and Human Resource Management (MOGRH) and Research Methods in Master and Doctoral programs. Researcher at the Research Centre in Economic and Organizational Sociology (SOCIUS). Invited professor at the Universidade Aberta, where she coordinates the course Sociology of Work and Leisure (MSc in Women’s Studies). She was a chair of the research network “Gender relations in the labour market and the welfare state”, of the European Sociological Association (ESA). And was the Head of the national mechanism for gender equality (CIG), under the presidency of the Council of Ministers. Concerning this position, she was a member of the the High Level Group in Gender Mainstreaming of the European Union. And was also a Member of the Management Board of EIGE – The European Institute for Gender Equality. She has been providing expert advisory support on public policies related to gender and non-discrimination issues for national and international public agencies.
Domains of Research As a researcher at the Research Centre in Economic and Organizational Sociology (SOCIUS), she has coordinated and participated in research projects mainly focused on gender relations in the labour market, new forms of work organization; gender and well-being; and work and employment flexibility. These have also been main topics of her publications. She has been supervising Master and PhD theses on work-life balance, gender equality policies, gender and the labour market, gender and ageing, and women migrants as domestic servants.
